Have you considered becoming a Teaching Assistant?

About a month ago, we launched our Teaching Assistant Level 2 Certificate Course, a 12-week programme supported by a practical volunteer placement in a school of choice, that upon completion, learners will gain a TA Level 2 Qualification – meaning they can work in schools as a Teaching Assistant.

Becoming a Teaching Assistant can lead to a rewarding and fulfilling career path with children. You could go on to secure permanent paid work in a local primary or secondary school, join our teaching supply agency at System People Education (inclusive of a day rate starting at £9.99 an hour), or you could go on to study further, and apply for one of our Level 3 Apprenticeships which we offer in TA or Childcare.

Starting a new course or deciding to change your career path during lockdown is understandably a potentially daunting thought, so we thought we would check in with the Tutor and some of the learners to see how everything was going!

Our lovely Lead Tutor, Sarah Taylor  tells us:

 “I am delighted to be delivering the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning CACHE Diploma again! The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behavior and communication and professional relationships.”

Over the remaining weeks, the learners will be completing the following 10 units, to embed their knowledge and skills – equipping them for a prosperous career: 

Child and Young Person Development

Study child development from birth to 19, learn how different aspects of development can affect one another.

Communication and Professional Relationships

You will discuss how to establish respectful, professional working relationships, how to behave age appropriately.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Work with Children You will identify the current legislation and codes of practice relevant to the promotion of equality and valuing diversity.

Help Improve Own and Team Practice in Schools

You will ask for constructive feedback on own practice from colleagues, to identify own strengths and weaknesses.

Maintain and Support Relationships

You will evidence that you communicate with children and young people in a way that is appropriate to the individual.

Safeguarding the Welfare of Children

You will identify the current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.

Support Children and Young People’s Health and Safety You will describe how current health and safety legislation, policies and procedures are implemented in the setting.

Support Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour You will describe the policies and procedures of the setting relevant to promoting children and young people’s behaviour.

Support Learning Activities

You will describe how a learning support practitioner may contribute to the planning, delivery and review of learning.

Schools as Organisations

You will describe the characteristics of the different types of school in relation to educational stage(s) and governance.
