What is it like to work in a Private Nursery?

šŸ£ Nurseries are interesting and unique places, they can be busy, noisy, fun and challenging.Ā A typical day in a nursery is marked by a regular set of tasks and duties which change over the course of the weeks/months but on the main follow a routine. This routine includes set meal times, nap times and indoor and outdoor play times. In addition to supporting the Childrenā€™s routine you will be supporting senior staff with creating engaging and fun display boards, organising classroom props/toys and supporting with any paperwork and administration such as children diaryā€™s and uploading learning to the online learning logs.

šŸ™Œ The majority of the job day to day will be to assist the nursery staff and wider team to ensuring that the babies and children are provided with a varied curriculum, with new challenges, with a commitment to ongoing improvements.Ā Most of all that they are well cared for and have some fun while learning!Ā You will be expected to assist with lesson planning and ideas for new creative learning to ensure that babies and children are progressing well as their time in the nursery continues.

šŸ‘¼ As part of a typical day you will be expected to assist with the general domestic upkeep of the nursery in addition to the care of equipment. It is important that you report any broken equipment, toys and books for repair and keep a look out for any potential accidents.Ā Keeping babies and children safe is importantĀ so ensuring their safety and security is key. You will be shown the security and safety practices in the nursery when you start.

ā˜• You would be expected to attend staff meetings alongside other staff and also be prepared to give some time and effort to assist at parentĀ social functions and parents eveningsĀ and occasional promotional events.

šŸ‘• You will be provided with a uniform and it is expected that you will present a professional image during nursery hours as your work appearance and conduct reflects on the Nursery. Working hours in a Nursery can be long and are usually between 8am and 6pm on a rota basis up to 40 hours a week. Most employers do also offer part time working options.

āœļø It is important that anyone who gains work in a nursery takesĀ Safeguarding/Child Protection extremely seriousĀ and adheres to the Nursery guidelines, policies and procedures at all time. This includes being aware of Health and Safety regulations and where necessary all accidents or Hearth and Safety breaches reported. As you would be working with children and their families it is important that you realise that you will be bound to the Nursery code of confidentially and therefore you must act with professionalism both inside the Nursery as well as outside of work hours.
