Care Leavers & Apprenticeships: Your Entitlements and Support
November 2025 is National Care Leavers Month and we thought that this would be a fantastic opportunity to highlight the practical support available to care‑experienced young people who are starting an apprenticeship — from the care leaver bursary to extra help from employers and training providers.
Quick facts
- £3,000 bursary for eligible apprentices (starts on/after 1 Aug 2023).
- £1,000 bursary if your apprenticeship started on/before 31 Jul 2023.
- Under 25 at the apprenticeship start date.
- Declared as an eligible, relevant or former relevant child.
- Claimed by your training provider and paid to you.
These key points summarise the essentials, but every care-experienced apprentice’s situation is unique. Your training provider will guide you through the process, confirm your eligibility, and make sure your bursary payments are handled quickly and securely – so you can focus on your learning and your new career.
