Careers - Information, Advice & Guidance For Parents and Carers
We understand the important role parents play in supporting their child with their career choices. And that you need to be equipped with information and tools so you can have open, informed conversations to help them make decisions about their next steps.
We share information about apprenticeships and pathways, System People and our programmes, how to apply and the process across our website.
Leaving school or full-time education to enter the workplace or take the next steps on their career journey is exciting. Your child will be developing new skills and gaining new experiences, and this can be more challenging for some, so parents, carers and family may need to support.
If you need any information or support at any stage, please contact us by calling Jayne Lillington (Careers Lead) or Joanna Splinter (Recruitment Coordinator) on 01228 210018 (option2 )
1. Understanding Apprenticeships and Career Pathways
Apprenticeships offer a fantastic route into skilled employment, allowing learners to earn while they learn and gain real qualifications and experience along the way. They are available at different levels — from entry-level programmes to degree apprenticeships — and cover a wide range of industries, including education, childcare, transport, and logistics.
Your child will be developing new skills and gaining new experiences, and this can be more challenging for some, so parents, carers and family may need to support. There are useful sites and tools available for Parents & Carers, so we’ve included some of these for you below.
2. How System People Supports Learners
At System People, we provide expert training and ongoing support throughout the apprenticeship journey. Our team works closely with learners and employers to ensure each individual receives the right mix of training, mentoring, and practical experience to succeed.
We also offer advice on how to apply, what the recruitment process involves, and what to expect once training begins. You can explore our apprenticeship programmes and learn how we help young people develop valuable skills that lead to long-term careers.
3. Supporting Your Child Through Their Next Steps
Transitioning from school or full-time education to the workplace can be both exciting and challenging. Parents and carers play a key role in offering encouragement, helping to build confidence, and keeping motivation high.
Encourage open conversations about career goals, strengths, and interests, and help them explore all the options available — whether that’s an apprenticeship, further education, or work experience.
