About the SEND Teaching Assistant Skills Bootcamp

What Is the SEND TA Skills Bootcamp?

This course provides intensive SEND training and includes:

  • 10 days of online, tutor led training
  • Funded by Enterprising Cumbria
  • Focus on inclusive practice, SEND awareness, and child-centred support

Who Is It For?

  • Individuals aged 19 or over
  • Already work in an Education setting and want to upskill

Skills Bootcamp Curriculum Overview

Over the course of 10 online tutor-led training days, learners will gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to support children with special educational needs in real-world classroom settings.

Day 1 – Policy & Procedures

National and local SEND policies, processes and procedures

  • SEND improvement plans
  • UNCRC -Childrens Rights
  • Health and Safety

Day 2 – The theoretical background to a range of SEND, for example ASD, attachment and trauma.

  • Neurodiversity
  • Trauma

Day 3 – The theoretical background to a range of SEND

  • Dyscalculia
  • Dyspraxia
  • Tourette’s
  • OCD
  • Attachment

Day 4 – Principles and approaches to early identification of SEND

  • Role of the SENDCo

  • Working with parents and other professionals

Day 5 – The tools available for assessment of SEND

Day 6 – The impact of SEND on children and young peoples learning and development
