National Apprenticeship Week: 5 Minutes with our Business Admin apprentice

The Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship is an excellent option that will supply you with the skillset and knowledge for a successful career in office-based work. You will benefit from learning highly transferable skills that can be used across a variety of different business sectors – so if you’re not exactly sure which sector you want to work in, you have options!

So in light of National Apprenticeship Week, we caught up with our very own business administration apprentice, Jennilee Done – who shares her thoughts on the course:

1) Why did you choose your chosen apprenticeship?

“A career in Business was something I was always interested in, I did L3 business in Sixth Form and wanted to enter the world of working but without going to university, so the best option for me was to apply for apprenticeships and I was successful in finding one training with System People! This meant i could also earn a wage while studying towards my qualification which was a win-win”

 2) What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

Jenilee, Business Administration Apprentice, System People

“I enjoy working with the people I work with the most, the team I work within is very supportive, we can all rely on each other and share the workload evenly where we can.

As an apprentice, you’re also given real responsibility early on if you’re capable, which for me, was exactly the challenge i was looking for upon leaving sixth form!  This definitely encourages me to work harder as I know I am valued and an integral part of the team and am gaining experience in a professional environment from day one.”

3) What skills has your apprenticeship helped you develop?

“My communication skills have developed massively since I started my apprenticeship, I have learned how to speak to people professionally and have gained confidence when conversing over the phone.

This has really helped with my confidence around people and in a workplace, which i know i wouldnt of had the opportunity to develop if i had chosen a fully academic route for example, university!”

4) Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others, if so – why?

“I would highly recommend an apprenticeship to others, you get the opportunity to earn whilst working towards a qualification. It is a great opportunity to also enhance your skills before becoming a full-time employee and it is also more work experience under your belt!

In a professional environment, it’s not only knowledge that is valued but having experience of being in workplaces is also what employers look for. Being at university may not provide you with the appropriate experience needed for the sector you intend to establish a career in.”
