We were recently rewarded ‘good’ following our first official Ofsted’ inspection, and alongside celebrating, are encouraging young people who have recently finished school to consider an apprenticeship, due to school leavers being hit the hardest by the repercussions of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
To help young people get back on track with their future, we are offering free career advice for young people who are seeking an apprenticeship this year. A lot of courses are rolling throughout the year, you just need to keep an eye on current vacancies.”
One Following the government £500 million jobs support package, where Rishi Sunak extended the incentive payment for employers of £3,000 for every new apprentice of any age until January 2022, we have seen a spike in local schools and nurseries seeking Early Year Practitioner and Early Years Educator apprenticeships across Cumbria, with vacancies spanning across Carlisle City Centre, Maryport, and Penrith.

No two days are the same
Although you’ll know what activities you’ll be doing on any given day because you’ll have planned them, all childcare environments involve a lot of ‘free play’ time, to let children express themselves and let their imagination run wild with paints, crafts, sand and water, and dressing up.
It’s incredibly rewarding
as an early years practitioner, you get to be one of the few trusted adults that takes care of a child’s needs and makes them feel secure and happy. Helping to aid children’s development and teach them the fundamental skills that will shape them as they grow is a huge privilege.
You’ll always be in demand
Early years professionals will always be in demand; parents and childcare provisions will always seek to recruit qualified, friendly, calm, and patient early years candidates to help the children in their setting grow and learn. Government ratios demand a high pupil to staff ratios which creates many opportunities in the field!
There’s plenty of opportunity for career progression
Following the completion of the Level 2 apprenticeship as an Early Years Practitioner, you can continue to study to gain a level 3 and qualify as an Early Years Educator. Further careers include moving on to become a Room Leader or a Nursery Manager or independent self-employed Childminder. For those looking to study a PGCE and become a Nursery Teacher, this is a great starting point.
