System People Education are the fastest growing education recruitment and teaching supply agency who have been finding work for local Teachers and TA’s since June 2012. We were the first teaching agency with offices in Cumbria and have grown organically, mainly from kind referrals from local teachers who have found work through us. We ‘meet’ with you to plan in an individual way and our experienced Education team will use this information to offer work – we all have local knowledge and value our relationships with candidates and schools.

About the role
We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Secondary School History Teacher to join a welcoming school community, providing long-term cover for Years 7–11. This is a wonderful opportunity to inspire a love of history and help students make sense of the past while building strong skills in critical thinking, reading, and written communication.
In this role, you will become part of a supportive and collaborative department that values creativity, high expectations, and positive relationships. You’ll create engaging lessons that bring historical topics to life, support students’ academic progress and wellbeing, and contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging History lessons for students in Years 7–11

Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment

Assess, track, and provide constructive feedback on student progress

Differentiate lessons to meet a range of abilities and learning needs

Work collaboratively with departmental colleagues to share resources and best practice

Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and the wider school team

Contribute to meetings, planning sessions, and school events

Uphold safeguarding policies and promote the school’s values at all times
Entry Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (desirable)
Experience teaching History at secondary level, ideally up to KS4
Strong subject knowledge and understanding of the national curriculum
Excellent communication and organisational skills
A positive, patient, and supportive approach to behaviour and wellbeing
Commitment to inclusive practice and high expectations for all students
