About the role

We are delighted to be supporting a small, friendly rural primary school at the heart of their local community with their staffing requirements, and we are looking to welcome a caring and enthusiastic KS1 Teaching Assistant to their team. This is a temporary, part-time position supporting the Year 1 class, with a particular focus on working closely with a small group of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).  Cover is needed from 8.30am to 3.30pm each day.

This role is ideal for someone who is patient, nurturing, and committed to helping every child feel supported, valued, and able to succeed. You will work alongside the class teacher and wider staff team to create a positive, inclusive learning environment where children can thrive both academically and emotionally.

Due to the nature of the role and the needs of the children, consistency and a calm, encouraging approach are essential. There is the possibility that this role may be extended beyond May Half Term until the end of the Summer Term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a small group of SEND children in Year 1 with their learning and development

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible lessons

  • Provide tailored support to meet individual needs, both in and out of the classroom

  • Encourage positive behaviour and support children’s social and emotional wellbeing

  • Help prepare and organise classroom resources and activities

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and other staff members

  • Supervise children during break and lunchtime where required

  • Observe and report on pupil progress and wellbeing

Entry Requirements

Experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within KS1

Understanding of SEND and strategies to support diverse learning needs

A patient, kind, and flexible approach

Strong communication and teamwork skills

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Early Years/Teaching Assistant)

A willingness to become part of a close-knit school community
