About the role

We are a delighted to be supporting a busy and welcoming Nursery and Infant School who are seeking a caring and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team on a temporary, full-time basis (Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 3.30pm) until the end of the academic year. This role involves providing 2:1 support for a child with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning and feel fully included in school life.

You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider support staff to provide consistent, nurturing support tailored to the child’s individual needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, observant, and committed to making a positive difference to a child’s day-to-day experience in school.

We are looking for someone who can build a strong, trusting relationship, provide structure and reassurance, and adapt learning and activities to support engagement. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the child develop socially, emotionally, and academically within a supportive and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 2:1 support for a child with SEND throughout the school day

  • Support the child to access learning activities within the classroom

  • Adapt tasks and resources to meet individual needs

  • Promote communication, engagement, and independence

  • Support social interaction and emotional regulation

  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement support strategies

  • Observe and record progress, sharing feedback with staff

  • Help maintain a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment

  • Support transitions between activities and different parts of the school day

Entry Requirements

Experience working with young children, ideally in Nursery or KS1

Experience supporting pupils with SEND, or a strong willingness to learn

A patient, nurturing, and calm approach

Ability to build positive and trusting relationships

Good communication and teamwork skills

Flexibility and responsiveness to individual needs

Relevant Early Years/Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 3)

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
