About the role

We are seeking a compassionate and adaptable Teacher to join a specialist SEND school supporting pupils with Autism on a full time, temporary basis, starting in June until the end of the current academic year.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils within a structured and nurturing environment designed to meet a range of communication, sensory and learning needs. You will work closely with experienced Teaching Assistants and the wider staff team to deliver personalised learning and help pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills.

The school is known for its supportive approach, strong teamwork and commitment to creating a calm and positive environment where every pupil is valued and encouraged to succeed at their own pace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to pupils with Autism and additional needs

  • Adapt teaching approaches to support different communication and learning styles

  • Create a calm, structured and inclusive classroom environment

  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and support staff to meet pupils’ individual needs

  • Support pupils’ social, emotional and behavioural development

  • Use consistent routines and positive behaviour strategies

  • Monitor, assess and record pupil progress

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents and external professionals where required

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times

Entry Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification

Experience working with children or young people with Autism and SEND (desirable)

Patient, flexible and nurturing approach

Strong classroom and behaviour management skills

Understanding of autism-friendly strategies and inclusive practice

Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff

Good communication and organisational skills

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
