About the role

We are looking for a friendly, professional, and organised Receptionist / Administrative Assistant to join a busy secondary school for a 3-month temporary assignment starting in September. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering outstanding customer service.

As the first point of contact for visitors, parents, students, and staff, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere within the school. Alongside reception duties, you will provide administrative support to the wider school office, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the school.

The successful candidate will be approachable, confident, and able to manage a range of tasks efficiently. No two days are the same, so this role would suit someone who enjoys variety and can remain calm and organised in a busy environment.

You will be joining a friendly and supportive team who are committed to creating a positive experience for students, staff, and visitors alike. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience within the education sector, develop your administrative and customer service skills, and make a meaningful contribution to the smooth operation of a thriving secondary school.

Working Days: Monday, Thursday and Friday
Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm (30-minute unpaid lunch break)

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist visitors, parents, staff, and students in a professional and friendly manner.

  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls and emails.

  • Manage visitor sign-in procedures and maintain safeguarding protocols.

  • Handle general enquiries and provide information as required.

  • Carry out a range of administrative tasks, including filing, data entry and document management.

  • Assist with school correspondence, letters, and communications.

  • Maintain accurate records and update school databases.

  • Support attendance administration and pupil records where required.

  • Process incoming and outgoing post.

  • Provide administrative support to the wider school office team.

  • Assist with photocopying, scanning, and preparing documents and resources.

  • Ensure the reception area remains tidy, welcoming and well-organised.

Entry Requirements

 

Previous reception, administrative, or customer service experience is desirable.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Confident and professional telephone manner.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Ability to work accurately and maintain confidentiality.

Friendly, approachable, and professional at all times.

Experience working within a school environment is advantageous but not essential.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
