About the role
We are looking for a caring, patient, and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join a friendly primary school from September through to Christmas. This rewarding role involves providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil, helping them to access learning and develop their communication skills within the classroom environment.
Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and external professionals where appropriate, you will play a key role in supporting the pupil’s speech and language development, encouraging confidence and helping them engage positively with learning and their peers.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has experience supporting children with additional needs, or for a compassionate individual who is passionate about making a real difference in a child’s educational journey. Key Responsibilities

Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil throughout the school day.

Support the pupil's speech and language development through targeted activities and strategies.

Work alongside the class teacher to adapt learning activities when required.

Encourage communication, interaction, and participation in classroom activities.

Help the pupil develop confidence, independence, and social skills.

Follow guidance from the SENDCo and any speech and language professionals involved.

Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

Support positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

Assist with classroom routines and transitions throughout the day.

Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Entry Requirements
Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or similar setting is desirable.
Previous experience supporting children with SEND and/or speech and language needs would be advantageous.
A patient, caring, and understanding approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
A commitment to supporting children’s learning and development.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow guidance from teaching staff.
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths are desirable.
Relevant Teaching Assistant or Early Years (or equivalent) qualification.
