About the role
We are seeking a dedicated, experienced, and nurturing SEND Senior Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school from September. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting pupils with additional needs within a Year 3 classroom, working alongside a supportive class teacher and an additional Teaching Assistant.
The successful candidate will provide targeted support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and other SEND needs, helping them to access learning, develop social and communication skills, and achieve their full potential. As a Senior Teaching Assistant, you will act as a positive role model within the classroom, using your experience and initiative to support both pupils and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high quality SEND support within a Year 3 classroom.

Support pupils with Autism and additional learning needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

Work closely with the class teacher and the second Teaching Assistant to deliver tailored support.

Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.

Encourage pupils' communication, social interaction, confidence, and independence.

Support the implementation of EHCP targets and SEND support plans.

Monitor and record pupil progress, sharing observations with teaching staff and the SENDCo.

Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing using appropriate strategies.

Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Liaise effectively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals where required.

Assist with the supervision and running of breakfast club and after-school club activities when needed.
Entry Requirements
Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably within a primary school setting.
Significant experience supporting children with SEND, particularly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 3 or above) or equivalent.
Strong understanding of autism-friendly strategies and inclusive classroom practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Confidence working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and families.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in a busy school environment.
Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs would be advantageous.
A genuine passion for helping children thrive both academically and socially.
Willingness to support breakfast club and after-school club provision.
