About the role
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and nurturing small primary school from September. This is a temporary, full-time position working 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, supporting children in EYFS and KS1 with high levels of additional needs within a setting that prides itself on providing personalised support and creating an environment where every child can succeed.
Working within small class groups, you will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop their communication and social skills, and build confidence in both the classroom and wider school environment. The school is committed to providing tailored support to meet the individual needs of every child, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and understood.
This role would suit someone with a genuine passion for SEND education who is patient, positive, and able to build strong relationships with children. You will work closely with teaching staff and other support professionals as part of a collaborative team focused on helping pupils achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

Support pupils with SEND and high-level additional needs throughout the school day.

Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learning needs.

Assist pupils in accessing lessons and participating in classroom activities.

Support the development of communication, social, emotional, and independence skills.

Work closely with the class teacher to deliver personalised learning strategies.

Implement support plans, behaviour strategies, and EHCP targets where applicable.

Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning.

Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.

Monitor and record pupil progress, sharing observations with teaching staff.

Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and other school activities as required.

Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
Entry Requirements
Previous experience working with children with SEND is desirable.
Experience supporting children with complex or high-level needs would be an advantage.
A patient, caring, and empathetic approach to supporting children.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm, positive, and adaptable in challenging situations.
A good understanding of safeguarding and child welfare practices.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Commitment to helping every child reach their full potential.
Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
