About the role

Greystoke Primary School is seeking a Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join their Key Stage 2 team from September. This opportunity is open to qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistants who are ready to progress into a more specialist role within school.

Alongside their day-to-day role, the successful candidate will complete the Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship. This is a higher-level qualification designed for experienced TAs who are supporting pupils with additional needs. The programme develops advanced knowledge of areas such as SEND, behaviour, intervention strategies and working in partnership with teachers and families. Training is delivered alongside employment, allowing the apprentice to apply new learning directly within the classroom.

Within Key Stage 2, the apprentice will support pupils with additional needs, working closely with the class teacher and wider school team to deliver targeted support and structured interventions. This role is suited to someone confident in the classroom, organised, and committed to improving outcomes for pupils who require additional support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting teaching and learning across Key Stage 2

  • Delivering targeted interventions to individuals and small groups

  • Supporting pupils with additional needs, including SEND

  • Contributing to planning and adapting activities to meet pupil needs

  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress

  • Working in partnership with teachers, SENCO and parents where appropriate

  • Promoting positive behaviour and inclusion across the classroom

Your future career with us

On successful completion of the Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship, you will be qualified to take on more advanced responsibilities within school. This may include leading interventions, supporting complex needs, contributing to provision planning, or taking on wider inclusion responsibilities.

This role is a strong progression step for an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant looking to build long-term career development within education.

Training & Development

This Level 5 apprenticeship is expected to last a period of 21 months. You will attend live tutor led sessions 1 day a month via Zoom and participate in online interactive learning via our bespoke innovative platform OLLIE. Your Tutor will also visit you in the workplace for 1-2-1 Tutor sessions during the programme.

Entry Requirements

GCSE grades 4/C or equivalent are desirable, however if you do not already hold these grades we can support you to complete Level 2 functional skills alongside your course.

You must hold a Level 3 Teaching Assistant or Early years Educator qualification (or equivalent) to be eligible for this apprenticeship.
