System People Education are the fastest growing education recruitment and teaching supply agency who have been finding work for local Teachers and TA’s since June 2012. We were the first teaching agency with offices in Cumbria and have grown organically, mainly from kind referrals from local teachers who have found work through us. We ‘meet’ with you to plan in an individual way and our experienced Education team will use this information to offer work – we all have local knowledge and value our relationships with candidates and schools.

About the role

We’re looking for a patient, supportive Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school on a supply basis. This role is for 27.5 hours per week and can be offered in one of two ways, depending on the candidate’s experience and strengths.

You’ll either be supporting a KS2 class with small-group interventions and general class support for pupils with SEN, or working 1:1 with a non-verbal pupil in Year 1 who has significant additional needs. The school is looking for someone who can build positive relationships, remain calm under pressure, and provide consistent, nurturing support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with special educational needs in either KS2 or Year 1

  • Delivering small-group interventions or 1:1 support as directed by the class teacher

  • Helping pupils to engage in learning and follow classroom routines

  • Encouraging communication, confidence, and independence

  • Supporting behaviour regulation and emotional wellbeing

  • Working closely with teaching staff to provide consistent, high-quality support

Entry Requirements

Experience supporting children with SEN in a school setting
A calm, patient, and proactive approach
Ability to work well as part of a team
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Relevant TA qualification
