About the role

We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with EYFS experience to join a welcoming school community in a part-time role based on the outskirts of Whitehaven. This position runs from after February half term through to the end of the academic year (with the possibility of continuing beyond) and offers a lovely balance of working across early years and upper KS2.

You will work in EYFS on Mondays and Tuesdays, supporting young children as they take their first steps in learning, and in Year 5/6 on Thursdays and Fridays, helping older pupils build confidence, independence, and strong study habits. Working closely with class teachers and a supportive team, you’ll help create a positive, inclusive environment where every child feels encouraged and cared for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support class teachers in EYFS and Year 5/6 with learning activities and classroom routines

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils as needed

  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment

  • Assist with preparing resources and setting up learning spaces

  • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development

  • Observe and share feedback on pupil progress with teaching staff

  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote the school’s values

  • Uphold safeguarding procedures at all times

Entry Requirements

Experience working in EYFS, ideally within a school setting

Experience supporting primary-aged children, including upper KS2 (desirable)

A caring, patient, and positive approach to working with children

Good communication and teamwork skills

Ability to support inclusive practice and a range of learning needs

Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification
