About the role
We are seeking a caring and committed Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a busy and well-established primary school in a temporary, part-time role, starting after Easter. The position is Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 3:15pm.
This role involves working as part of a 2:1 support team for a Year 1 pupil with autism who is non-verbal, providing consistent, structured and nurturing support throughout the school day. You will play a key role in helping the child feel safe, engaged and able to access learning, both in the classroom and during wider school activities.
Working in a large and vibrant school, you will be part of a supportive team and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment where every child is encouraged to succeed.
Key Responsibilities

Provide dedicated 2:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with autism

Support communication using appropriate strategies (e.g. visual aids, gestures, simple language)

Help the pupil access learning activities and follow daily routines

Work closely with the class teacher and support staff to implement agreed strategies

Adapt tasks to meet the pupil’s individual needs

Support social, emotional and behavioural development throughout the day

Help maintain a calm, structured and supportive environment

Supervise and support the pupil during transitions and unstructured times

Observe and share feedback on progress and wellbeing

Uphold safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times
Entry Requirements
Experience working with primary aged children and supporting pupils with autism and communication needs (essential)
A calm, patient and nurturing approach
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of inclusive practice and individual support strategies
Relevant Teaching Assistant or SEND qualification
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
