Who can become an Apprentice?
The short answer to this is – anyone! This option mostly appeals to school leavers who are looking for an alternative to university or college. The great thing about Apprenticeships compared to university – you don’t have to pay a penny!
The only requirements are that you are:
- Over 16
- Living in England
- Not in full-time education
There is often the misconception that Apprenticeships can only be undertaken by school leavers, but this is an outdated view of Apprenticeships.
Apprenticeships offer a huge range of opportunities for people of all ages to advance or change their careers!
Is an Apprenticeship right for me?
Apprenticeships tend to appeal to those who are looking for a more practical alternative to learning. You will be able to work directly in your chosen career path while you learn. The skills that you learn in the classroom will be put to the test every day as you progress. This hands-on experience will be invaluable.
While you will gain valuable knowledge from tutors during your learning sessions, the staff that you work with day-to-day will be able to impart their experience.
Not only this, but you will be able to avoid costly university fees and instead earn a wage while you are learning!
Bearing this in mind, Apprenticeships can also be for those who are looking for a career change, or someone wanting to upskill in their current career.
What qualifications will I receive as an Apprentice?
Each Apprentice has a different level and an equivalent education level. You can apply to start at any level, though you may require some previous qualifications. At System People we require you to have a minimum have a grade C/4 in maths OR English and at least a D/3 in the other.
At the end of your Apprenticeship you will receive one of the following:

| Advanced | 3 | A Level |
| Higher | 4,5,6 and 7 | Foundation degree and above |
| Degree | 6 and 7 | Bachelor’s or Master’s degree |
Our Apprenticeships fall under Level 2 and Level 3, depending on which route you go down. These are nationally recognised qualifications.
Why should I do my Apprenticeship with System People?
At System People we are dedicated to working with incredible local schools and businesses who will provide an excellent environment for learners to do their Apprenticeships. This is where you are going to be spending 80% of your working week and it is vital that you are able to learn and are supported by a fantastic team.
You will also be attending Tutor led classroom sessions with our Tutors in Carlisle twice a month, gaining invaluable skills that you will be able to put into practice every day at work. Our Tutors work incredibly hard, making sure that the teaching is understandable and relevant for your day-to-day work.
Ultimately, an Apprenticeship WILL leave you with skills for life, allowing you to progress in whatever way is most appropriate for you!
