Our Apprentices volunteered with the community!

Two Apprentices donating plants to Eden Valley HospiceOur group of Early Years Practitioners got involved in the community this week!

They visited Eden Valley Hospice, presenting them with a range of plants, bulbs and garden ornaments for their gardens around the hospice. These gifts were donations from a local garden centre, Tarn Road Nursery, and the EYP Apprentices’ donations towards buying some.

Natalie Sisson lets us know how they got on!

Apprentices walking around Eden Valley Hospice“After giving our plant donations, Jerry at the hospice kindly gave us a tour of the hospice and we were provided with lovely refreshments.

We spent time in the children’s garden ‘walking in’ the newly laid pathways – this is to help with securing it down so that the children can access it safely.

It was a fantastic experience for our apprentices!

Not only did they get to donate plants and their time, but also an insight into the hospice. For some

practitioners who have shown an interest in careers supporting children that are unwell in a hospital environment this was an invaluable experience.

They also commented on how relaxing and calm the hospice was. They thought the whole experience changed their view of a hospice as they thought it would be quite a depressing, sad place to be, but it was actually quite the opposite! It was welcoming, calm, colourful and homely.

Many of the learners came away feeling inspired to fundraise again for the hospice in the future.”

It is fantastic to see our learners getting involved in the local community and gaining experience in new areas. This has been an incredible experience and we are so grateful for Eden Valley Hospice for allowing us to visit and showing us around.

We hope that we will get to work together again in the future!
